Into The Woods Brillion High School
This project involved recording Into the Woods for Brillion High School in Wisconsin using a three-camera setup across both a rehearsal and opening night performance. By capturing multiple shows, I was able to plan camera cues in advance and later combine footage to create the strongest possible final recording.
Client: Brillion High School
Location: Brillion

For this production of Into the Woods, I worked with Brillion High School to record both a full rehearsal and the opening night performance. Recording more than one show is especially valuable for musicals, as it allows the director to learn the pacing of the show, anticipate lighting and blocking cues, and be prepared for moments that happen only once during a live performance.
A three-camera setup was used for this project. One camera was operated by a student videographer, giving students hands-on experience working as part of a live production crew. A second camera was operated by me in the role of director, allowing for intentional framing and coverage of key moments. A third camera provided additional angles to support editing and ensure consistent coverage throughout the show.
After reviewing both recordings, the director of the musical requested that footage from the rehearsal be incorporated into the opening night recording. This was due to a few sound issues during opening night and a moment where one actor missed her lines. Because the rehearsal had been recorded with the same camera setup, it was possible to seamlessly edit in those moments while maintaining visual and audio consistency.
The final result reflects the performance as a whole rather than the limitations of a single night. By planning ahead, recording multiple shows, and combining footage when needed, the completed video preserves the best version of the production for students, families, and the school.
